What is an IPv4 Address?

What is an IPv4 Address?

IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) is a system used to identify devices on a network using an address. It is the most commonly used IP version.
---

Structure:

An IPv4 address consists of 4 parts, called octets, separated by dots.

Example: 185.107.80.231

Each octet is a number from 0 to 255.

Each octet = 8 bits = 1 byte

Total size = 4 octets = 32 bits
---

Binary Representation:

Each octet is converted into an 8-bit binary number. For example:

185 = 10111001

107 = 01101011

80 = 01010000

231 = 11100111

So, the full binary form of the IP address is:

10111001.01101011.01010000.11100111
