Pakistani Calligrapher Who Served 30 Years in Madinah
Ustad Shafiq-uz-Zaman Khan, a renowned Pakistani calligrapher who has served at Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque) in Madinah for over 30 years.
Commonly known as "Al-Haram Calligrapher," he reached this position after winning a prestigious international competition in 1990 to restore and create new calligraphy for the mosque. His most significant contributions include:
Dome Calligraphy: He was entrusted with the monumental task of restoring and creating Quranic inions on 177 domes originally constructed during the Ottoman era.
Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifa: Three of his paintings, crafted with 24-karat gold, are displayed in this sacred area.
Manual Craftsmanship: Eschewing modern computer technology, he completes his intricate work by hand, with some inions taking entire nights to finish.
